The ACPS sponsored international symposium was successfully held between June 10-11, 2006 in Beijing in collaboration with Renmin University of China, Jilin University, Zhongshan University. The broad theme of the conference is Political China in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities.
The two-day conference brought together more than 150 scholars on China studies, among whom about 35 were from outside of China. There were 18 panels and about 100 papers presented. Participants explored a wide variety of topics related to the central theme, such as China?s peaceful rise or the China threat, the cultural dimensions of Chinese politics, political philosophy and China context, China and East Asia, Chinese foreign policy, democratization and dilemma, EU-China relations, transition of governance in China, China?s economic development, social space and political identity, the politics of governance, environmental and social challenges, rule of law and political development. The Vice President of the Central Party School, Li Junru, concluded the conference by delivering a speech on the Prospect of China?s Political Reform.
After the conference, the ACPS Officers, Drs. Sujian Guo, Jean-Marc F. Blanchard, and Shiping Hua, held a banquet on behalf of the Association to thank Dean Li Jingzhi of School of International Studies of Renmin University and his associates, Dr. Lynn T. White III of Princeton University, Dr. Brantly Womack of University of Virginia, and other institutional partners for the past years? successful collaboration and exchange between our Association and their institutions. ACPS Officers also explored the opportunities of establishing collaborative relationship with Peking University, CCP Central Party School, and Ford Foundation in the future.
