International Symposium & the 23rd ACPS Annual Meeting
“China in Search of Sustainable Development, Social Harmony, and Soft Power”

Friday-Sunday, July 30-August 1, 2010
· The reflection on the political development in the past three decades
· Theoretical and empirical investigations of current political development in China
· Theoretical or empirical studies of the new development model China is undertaking
· The role of civil society in China’s transition
· Elite changes and local politics
· The causes and preventions of social disharmony in China
· The institutional building in modernizing China’s political system
· The policy of ”peaceful development” and China’s relation with the world
· The détente and future direction of cross-Strait relations.
We invite research papers that address these issues as well as other important topics that are appropriate to the main theme of this conference. Well-researched conference papers will have the opportunity: (1) to be published in Journal of Chinese Political Science (JCPS); (2) and/or to be included in edited books.
Submission
All scholars and researchers who are working in related fields are invited to submit proposals for consideration. Please send your proposal(s) via email tomeeting@acpsus.org no later than February 1, 2010. Paper proposals should include paper title, name(s) of author(s), institutional affiliation, title/position, mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address. All required information should be saved in MS Word documents (please do not use PDF) and sent as email attachments. Notification of acceptance will be issued no later than February 15, 2010.
The meeting organizers will provide FREE lodging for two nights and FREE meals for Friday evening, full day on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday for registered participants. To receive the subsidized lodging and meals, participants need to register and pay for the conference registration fees as well as ACPS membership fee byMarch 15, 2010. The completed paper must be submitted online to the new ACPS website at http://www.acpsus.orgbefore July 15, 2010.
Once your paper proposal is accepted, participants are required to register for the meeting on ACPS’s new web site: http://www.acpsus.org. You need to create an ACPS account first, then log back in with your user name and password into your account. You can register for the meeting and signup for ACPS membership or renew your membership. We do not have an online payment option yet.
